The State Government has commenced the expansion of traffic lights across the State.
The Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr Obi Nwankwo, who disclosed this in Awka said it is part of measures by the Obiano administration to reduce the challenge of gridlock and promoting safety on roads.
Mr Nwankwo, said in addition to the existing traffic light at Eke Awka, the State government has also installed the facility at Amawbia by-pass and Nnobi junction, while installation is ongoing at Nkwo Nnewi Triangle.
He explained that the project would also be executed in other strategic locations including Enugwu-Ukwu junction, Oye Olisa Market, Ugwunwasike Ogidi and Nkpor junction.
The Commissioner commended Ndi Anambra for obeying the traffic light and supporting the efforts of the government to promote safety on roads.
Mr Nwankwo who expressed satisfaction with the positive impact of the State government street light project on the lives of the people especially during the yuletide, disclosed that the first and second phases of the project covering two hundred kilometers across many communities have been completed while the third phase of another one hundred kilometres is ongoing.
He explained that Governor Obiano initiated the project to among other things further promote security and boost socio economic activities, noting that presently it has engendered new businesses in the benefiting communities and is equally promoting night life.
Mr Nwankwo, assured that effective maintenance structure has been put in place to sustain the legacy project.
